2013 Good Food Awards Finalist
Madagascar Craft Chocolate Bar
Madagascar is an island of spices, famous for its vanilla, pepper, and cinnamon. So it’s only natural to blend our Madagascar 70% dark chocolate with a wild pepper harvested on the very same island. The pepper adds a delicious complexity to the chocolate, pushing the red fruit to the background and allowing the emerging spiciness to marry with bright spikes of sour citrus. The wild voatsiperifery pepper is a rare peppercorn from Madagascar. The plant (“tsiperifery” in Malagasy) grows wild in the tropical forest, up to heights approaching 65 feet. Only the young shoots at the very top produce fruits (“voa”), which are handpicked by villagers from the east coast of the island. The cocoa in our Madagascar chocolate bar is grown in the Sambirano Valley, in the northwest part of the island.
