The Perfect Mother’s Day
As a fairly new mother, my family has not yet established our holiday customs. I aspire to develop new family customs, while still embracing some of my mothers’ and grandmothers’ traditions. This leaves me questioning – how do you celebrate the perfect Mother’s Day?
The perfect start to any day, especially Mother’s Day, is a delicious brunch. My first stop would be Mother’s Day Brunch at the South End Kitchen. Their fresh pancakes drizzled with warm maple syrup or perfectly poached eggs Benedicts with a refreshingly tart lemon hollandaise sauce bring me back to my childhood mornings at my grandmother’s house. Top off brunch with a latte on the patio and my day might be made. The best part is they do the clean up!
After a long cold winter in Vermont, this week’s sunshine and warmer weather have me yearning to be outside. We could spend Mother’s Day walking around Shelburne Museum to see all the beautiful lilacs in bloom. Or take the scenic Mother’s Day Train Ride to Middlebury and walk around my alma mater. Maybe, we should spend the day enjoying in the views while hiking atop Mount Mansfield. With so many choices, it is going to be hard to decide.
A perfect Mother’s Day would not be complete without the perfect gift. My oldest knows that not just any chocolate will do for his mother. We love to take the chocolate bar making classes together and craft our own unique masterpieces. (Last class we made a delicious dark chocolate bar with cherries, pistachios and a hint of sea salt.) Or maybe we will spend the afternoon baking together in the kitchen – I’ve wanted to try making this salted caramel chocolate tart made with the Organic 72% Dark Chocolate Bar. Hopefully they will treat me to some of Emily’s hand-decorated marzipan flowers.
While trying to plan my perfect Mother’s Day I am constantly reminded that my family at Lake Champlain Chocolates often echoes the same notions I contemplate within my own family. As a multi-generational family-owned company, there are many stead-fast traditions like our hand-crafting all natural truffles and slow-cooked caramel. But, much like my desire for new family traditions, our Fair for Life initiative and non-GMO commitment highlight there is part of Lake Champlain Chocolates that strives to create new customs around new ideals.
Mother’s Day is a time for us to celebrate all of the mother’s in our life. How are you going to celebrate this Mother’s Day?
