Meet Our Local Secret- Learn How Local Bees Make Lake Champlain Chocolates' Buzz

January 15, 2010 :: Lake Champlain Chocolates (LCC) will feature a free honey and chocolate tasting at 2:00pm at their 750 Pine Street Factory Store & Cafe on Saturday January 23rd. The event begins with a honey tasting presentation by William Mares of the Vermont Beekeepers Association (VBA). He will talk about how beekeepers collect the honey, the variety and sources of honey including the unique aspects of Vermont honey, and VBA’s work with over 1,200 local beekeepers to sustain Vermont’s honey industry.

The honey tasting, led by Bill Mares of the VBA, will inform participants how to taste and evaluate the varieties of honey and include a discussion of the different flavors, as well as the storage and shelf life of honey. Attendees will sample honey in its many forms including liquid, comb, creamed and whipped.

Gary Coffey, Director of Retail at LCC, will have samples of chocolates and caramels made with Vermont honey that help create complex flavors that are unique to our local region. There is no need to register for the tasting. Seating is limited so it is recommended to arrive early.

“This hands-on event gives participants a chance to taste, learn and explore different varieties of honey and discover how the unique taste of Vermont’s honey gives our chocolates and caramels a distinctive and delicious flavor,” says Gary Coffey, Director of Retail.

This is the second event in a series launched by LCC last fall to celebrate and feature the local farmers who provide the fresh, natural ingredients that have always played a role in their chocolates.

The LCC Factory Store & Cafe offers chocolates, confections, hot chocolates, cappuccinos, lattes, ice cream, gourmet coffee and teas, cold beverages, and lots of factory seconds.
