This week just gets better!
OK. Second very exciting thing to happen this week. We are finally offering our Belgian chocolate pistoles online. For those who don’t know, pistoles are chocolate chips. (Until I started working here, I didn’t know that.)
Anyway, in the past, we’ve only offered the pistoles in our stores but people kept writing and asking about them. They knew they saw them when they visited us but didn’t buy them at the time since they didn’t want to cart them home. They figured they could just order them and have them shipped once they returned from their travels. Imagine what a bummer it was when they went to our website and couldn’t find them.
Well, no longer will that be a problem. Not only can you find the pistoles online but we also have these new Bakers Gifts available and these were never available before, online or instore. And as someone who likes to dabble a bit in the culinary world, I’m so excited. My family and friends know they’ll be getting chocolate for Christmas but the bakers in my family are in for an big surprise this year! I just have to be sure I give the Chocolate Cake Baker’s Kit to my Mom so when she bakes our Ultimate Chocolate Cake recipe, I’ll be able to steal a piece!

A Chocolate Adventure
After much planning, training and detail-wrangling, it’s finally finished and ready to go. And we’re so excited. What are we excited about? I’m glad you asked! We are starting an exciting weekly program with our partners at Smugglers’ Notch Ski Resort. It’s called “A Chocolate Adventure” and it’s a one-hour program on chocolate, focusing on learning how to properly taste chocolate. You’ve heard me mention this in earlier blogs – there’s a difference between eating and tasting. And with all they do up at Smuggs, it’s one more exciting program in their schedule of great offerings. And it’s totally open to the public.
With a brief intro into some history and info about chocolate, it’s not long before you jump into your first tasting – milk chocolate, dark chocolates, caramels. Aaahh. Think of the things that go into taking a wine tasting course. Yum, right? Well, replace the wine with chocolate. Yum Yum! I know some of you are thinking, why replace the wine with chocolate? Why not do both? Well, this is something all members of the family can attend and while a wine and chocolate pairing is a great idea and very popular, that might be a class for another time.
So, if you find you’re in the neighborhood and want to enroll in “A Chocolate Adventure”, just reach out to the folks at Smugglers’ Notch for more info. They’ll be offering it all season long. What better way to spend the day – skiing in the morning, tasting chocolate in the afternoon. We’ll see you there!

Knee Deep in Hanukkah!
First it was chocolate pumpkins for Halloween. Then it was chocolate turkeys for Thanksgiving. Now, it’s chocolate coins for Hannukah. I’m constantly surrounded by a sea of thematic chocolates. I guess it’s just that time of year. Don’t misunderstand me. I’m not complaining. I’m just sensing a pattern.
The pumpkins were fun because they just smiled all day long. The Turkeys were good because they’re just so darn cute and the perfect size for snacking, nap-free! And now, the Hannukah chocolates are here. While our truffles and bars are always Kosher, we have these beautiful blue containers of chocolate coins in this pretty, shiny metallic foil and I just love them. Once they hit the shelves in the store, they brighten things right up. And it’s so dramatic a shift in colors from the previous autumnal hues. Really let’s you know winter and the holiday season are upon us.
Sure, it won’t be long before there is an army of Chocolate Santas and Snowmen standing at attention, waiting for their day in the spotlight. Especially since Hannukah begins Dec. 4. Before we know it, December will be gone and we’ll be on to hearts and bunnies.
But right now, I’m happy just to take in the beautiful colors of Hannukah and enjoy them as the season begins to unfold.

Goodbye Halloween - Helloooooooo Thanksgiving!
Well I must say, Halloween was fun but Thanksgiving is on its way and I’m excited. Who can deny this wonderful holiday of food, friends and family. I LOVE taking a break from school (and work!) to travel home for the long weekend. There is nothing better than going home to a house filled with smells of holiday baking. Not to mention eating all that holiday baking. That filling stuffing, those sweet, sweet potatoes, garlic biscuits, that spinach casserole grandma makes me eat, and that delicious main course!
However, this year is going to be different. My family knows I am interning for an exquisite chocolate company and of course they are going to make sure I come home with great chocolate. There is no telling if they will attack me at the door or wait until after dinner to eagerly ask me what I brought home. Either way I am sure there are huge expectations for me this year. I might just have to settle on bringing home place setting Chocolate Turkeys in addition to my favorite New World Hot Chocolate. I feel the turkeys will go over the best because they are pleasing to the eye and would be extremely fun to eat at the end of dinner. Also, how can I go home without my hot chocolate? I seriously have an addiction to that stuff and it is not a bad one I must say. Regardless, I am excited to be home with family and friends, and of course.. . the food!
